Hosszu and Morozov overall champions of SWC Series

Today was the final day of competition of this year’s FINA/airweave Swimming World Cup Series. During the final leg, Katinka Hosszu (HUN) added 12 more medals to her tally, 10 gold and 2 silver medals. After the first meetings of the 2016 SWC Series, Hosszu already had a huge lead in the rankings and therefore has been expected to take the overall crown ever since finishing the first cluster of events. At each of the 2016 legs, Hosszu was to be found either within the water or – if outside – standing on the podium: She entered the majority of available events and medalled in most of them. Thus, it is not surprising Hosszu is leading the prize money ranking by far. Second and third in the overall ranking of this year’s Series are Alia Atkinson (JAM) and Jeanette Ottesen (DEN).

On the men’s side early leader Vladimir Morozov also claimed the title of overall champion, with Chad Le Clos (RSA) and Daiya Seto (JPN) taking the second and third rank respectively. Morozov often came out on top in the individual medley, freestyle and breast events he entered. In contrast, South African Le Clos focused on the butterfly events, taking home gold at each of the World Cup meets. During the last cluster, Daiya Seto from Japan passed Germany’s Philip Heintz in the overall ranking and therefore finished third.
